Plot a new course.

I find where your business is losing hours to busywork — and show you how to get them back. Fixed price. Report in five business days. You keep it either way.

Taking three pilot clients this fall at no cost, in exchange for candid feedback.

The first conversation costs nothing and shares nothing.

The Trimtab Audit

Five hours a week, found in five business days.

Not a strategy deck. A look at how the work actually moves through your business, and a short, specific list of what to change first.

  • A 45-minute call. You walk me through how the work flows, where it piles up, and what you've already tried.
  • A 10–15 page report. What's slow, what it costs you in hours and dollars, the specific tools that fix it, and a 30-day plan.
  • Delivered in five business days. Fixed scope, quoted up front — no hourly meter running.
  • Yours to keep. Fix it yourself, hand it to your team, or have me do the work. No obligation either way.

The guarantee

I'll identify at least five hours a week of recoverable time, or you pay nothing. I guarantee the identification, not the delivery — and if the honest answer is "don't buy anything yet," that's what the report says.

I recommend tools you already pay for first. Custom builds only when nothing off the shelf fits the job.

What this looks like

Things I actually find.

Property management

Your office manager spends 30 hours a month copying numbers out of AppFolio into owner statements. That's the kind of thing I find.

Trades & contractors

Invoices get retyped from QuickBooks into three different spreadsheets, and nobody can tell you which jobs actually made money last quarter.

Insurance, law, accounting

Client intake gets rekeyed from email into the practice-management system, and half of it arrives as scanned PDFs that someone retypes by hand.

How it works

Four steps. No theatre.

  1. Talk.

Fifteen minutes, free. You describe what feels slow; I tell you whether an audit makes sense.

  2. Look.

I watch the work and pull the numbers: hours spent, handoffs, rework, software you're paying for and not using.

  3. Report.

Ten to fifteen pages in five business days: ranked fixes, what each one costs, and a 30-day plan to start.

  4. Decide.

You keep the report. Fix it yourself, hand it to your team, or bring me back to do it.

Privacy

Your data goes only where you approve.

I use commercial accounts with training turned off, redact what doesn't need to be seen before analysis, and delete your files on a date we agree to in writing.

When your data can't touch the cloud at all — law firms, medical-adjacent practices, anyone under a client-confidentiality rule — I run the analysis locally, on a machine you control. That's a tier, not a slogan, and I'll tell you which one your work needs before we start.

No training on your data. No surprises in the contract.
Why "Trimtab"

A small surface that turns the ship.

A trim tab is the small surface on the trailing edge of a ship's rudder — a miniature rudder that turns the big rudder that turns the whole ship. Buckminster Fuller argued his whole life that the smallest correctly-placed intervention steers the largest thing.

And it exists for one reason: it makes the rudder easier to move. The captain doesn't fight the ship — a light touch from the bridge, and the ship answers.

“Call me Trimtab.”

That's the entire thesis of this firm. Not transformation. Precision.

About

Matt, founder of Trimtab

Matt — founder

I'm an engineer, and I'll tell you when the answer is "don't buy anything."

I've spent 15+ years building software at staff level, including real-estate data and reporting pipelines — the same kinds of systems I now audit. I'm in Reno, and I'll come to your office.

Trimtab is one person by design: whoever diagnoses the problem is the one who fixes it. No subcontractors, no platform to resell.

Questions

FAQ

What do I actually get?

A 45-minute call, then a 10–15 page report in five business days: what's slow, what it costs you, the specific tools that fix it, and a 30-day plan. Yours to keep.

What if you don't find five hours a week?

You pay nothing. I guarantee the identification, not the delivery — if the honest answer is "don't buy anything yet," that's what the report says.

Do I have to hire you to fix it?

No. Plenty of clients take the report and run with it. I'd rather you fix it yourself than pay me for something you didn't need.

Will you try to sell me software?

No. I don't resell anything. Most of what I recommend is a feature in a tool you already pay for. Custom builds are the exception, not the default.

Where does my data go?

Only where you approve. Commercial accounts with training off, redaction before analysis, deletion on a date we agree in writing. If your work can't touch the cloud at all, I run it locally on a machine you control.

Do you work outside Reno?

Yes — remotely anywhere, and on-site around Reno, Sparks, and the Tahoe basin.
